20" TFT with 1600x1200

Hi, as far as I can tell the limitations do have one draw back: I have an Eizo FlexScan L885 with 1600x1200 pixel resolution. Is it correct that that resolution is not Geminus compatible? If it is are there plans to support that pretty common screen type, or how can I make use of Geminus with this one. It does offer to rotate the screen so the rotation feature would be a treat.

1200x1600 (ie 1600x1200 rotated) is planned to be supported in single monitor configurations in the next release.

Multi-monitor modes using 3200x1200 (ie 1600x1200x2) will require a change to the Nvidia module in the OS to remove the "multiple of 256" limitation that it currently imposes on us. We are discussing this with Castle, but cant make any promises.

Regards,

-Neil.

To clarify Neil's reply a little, the 256-pixel constraint is incurred by the way Geminus works but I can potentially remove this for the left-hand and right-hand screens only, but it requires the NVidia driver's interface to be extended ever so slightly.

Since most users do not have 3 or more screens this should, in practice, but a workable solution, though there is a slight risk that some poorly-written software will break because it is unable to handle the 'wasted bytes' at the end of each scanline. (RISC OS has always allowed for the presence of undisplayed bytes, so that unusual screen widths can be accomodated.)

I'm pleased to hear this - having just received Geminus this morning I was starting to think that I'd wasted my money. I've been using my ViewSonic in 1600x1200 for the last five years and being restricted to 1024x1280 portrait mode would be a huge disappointment.

In the meantime, you could maybe try creating a 1600 x 1280 screen mode that could then be used by Geminus in portrait orientation as 1280 x 1600?
